It can go either way...

Post HS, one is open to the world of the 'gentiles'. Their habits, their entertainment, their potty mouths.

Now the question is, do you stick with what you know, or go on to greener pastures?
Sure, we're Jews, we have the Torah, we're so special, la di da. But they're having the fun, they're enjoying life, they're figuring themselves out in a way that Jew girls don't have the leeway to do.

Or, I can become ridiculously involved in the Hillel on campus, go to Makor twice every week and start chilling at the Chabad House in midtown. (Note the lubavitch theme, itt'l come up again)

It's so frightening how open to influence I am.
So which way peeps? Take the high road of faith and religion?
Watch R. Dawkins till I turn blue in the face?
Or have my fun for 5+ years and do a turnaround?

Thanks for the good wishes. Right back at ya.

also, I was in a similar college to yours and I had a different experience all together. My thing was NOT to get involved in anything on campus, as I was in a yeshiva and that was my real home. But its different for guys. I never went to the "caf" till maybe my third year, I never even knew the other jews until I was forced to take a night class with everyone. (orgo...)

I have never been to the hillel.

The bottom line is, that for a girl such as yourself, with a lot of religious training, you have more to gain from things going on in your town more then whats going on in your college.

I just want to say that i regret not being as involved in my student life, and meeting more people, as they are all amazing, and I learned a lot about different people through them.

The hillel and chabad are a great tool, but one day you will realize that you need something much more.

"R. Dawkins"

Rabbi Dawkins? ;-)

For the record though, while it may seem like greener pastures, the truth is that it always looks greener on the other side.

I really think it would be stupid at this point in your life to "go have fun" cause you wont be able to come back and be fully accepted. and even if you do come back when you are 26ish, you won't be accepted and will be an "older girl." (I'm talking to myself over here too)

I'm not doing the whole college thing, but most of my friends who are just go and come back. interact with who you have to and thats it.

I see what you're saying. It's tough because their lives look sooo damn good.
